To recap recent events and/or news, here is our shortlist:
- Cameron Sinclair Lecture. Blog On the City provided a review of the Sinclair (Architecture for Humanity) lecture that was spot on. Frankly every damn architect and designer in the city should have been there, but we only saw the usual suspects. For those who did attend and heard Mr. Sinclair's speech, please visit the AFH Cleveland website and become involved with the group.
- The Breuer/Ameritrust Project. The to-be-saved, to-be-demolished, to-be-saved, et. al. Breuer/Ameritrust project is moving forward with local developer K&D Group planning to renovate the complex into a mixed use condominium, hotel and office complex. Westlake Reed Leskosky, whom served as the Architect of Record on the original complex, will be the Architect of Record on the new project.
- Jacobs Announces Tower for Public Square. The developer who made its fortune off of shopping malls and notoriety off of naming rights (Jacobs Field), has announced plans for a 21 story office building at Public Square. Of course, Jacobs opts to use Gensler - a firm without an Ohio office - as its Architect in lieu of several other qualified local firms. Note to Jacobs and other outsourcing clients: Several professionals work in this city who used to work at the big-name, prolific out-of-town firms. We're around. Call us. Use us.
- CIA Building By MVRDV Over Budget. But, CIA assures us that they can work with MVRDV to bring it within line. Our guess is that the budget overruns are due to programming - not the 'iconic' building. If worse comes to worse, CIA could opt to take a level of the glorified MVRDV parking garage. Or have Jacobs buy naming rights.
